The Blue Mosque in the morning sun To my very surprise! Many people have not heard about the Blue Mosque or Masjid Biru. In this post, I share some information on this magnificent mosque. Exterior or interior the mosque is not as blue as how the people from the West call this mosque as the “Blue Mosque”. The ‘blue’ label was associated with the more than 21,000 pieces of Iznik (Nicaea) blue tiles decorated the interior walls of the mosque especially on the main entrance. When people mentioned about Istanbul or Turkey, the Blue Mosque will automatically emerge. Throughout history, the Turks never called the Sultan Ahmed Mosque as the Blue Mosque. The mosque was built for 7.5 years between 1609 and 1617. Sultan Ahmed I, the 14th Sultan of Ottomans at 19 years old commissioned Sedefkar Mehmet Aga to construct the mosque.
