The secretly enchanted....Venice

Canale and vicolo..... not other place in the world is similar to Venice
I visited this enchanted city in 2007, so it is an old story and please excuse me for the poor quality of photos. These photos were from my old 3 MP camera, so what do you expect?! I was in Venice not for holiday but rather to fulfill my job requirement. I spend the 1-month stay at the International University of Venice located at the Isola di San Servolo, a very tiny island but very very beautiful. From my room, I can see the St Marco campanile. I think it is nice to share with my friends what to see and do in Venice other than just eat the PASTAs.

Venice or known as Venezia by the local people, the Venetian. The city is located in the northeast Italy. Actually, Venice comprises of 118 small isola or islands separated by canals and linked by ponte or bridges. Venice is popular for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. The city is divided into six sestiere or districts. These are Cannaregio, San Polo, Dorsoduro, Santa Croce, San Marco and Castello. The majority of attractions and activity are concentrated in San Marco.

International Airport serving Venice is called Aeroporto di Venezia Marco Polo. The airport is on the mainland and was rebuilt away from the coast. From the Venice airport the main transportation hub, Venice Piazzale Roma, it is possible to reach by ATVO public transport. Most of the budget airlines lands Aeroporto di Treviso Which is located 30 km from Venice, the company ATVO will bring you to the main hub too.

San Marco campanile; vaporreti (water buse); the gondole
Azienda Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano (ACTV) is the name of the public transport system in Veneto. It combines land transportation, with buses, and canal travel, with water buses (vaporetti). The main public transportation in Venice islands are vaporetti, which ply regular routes along the Grand Canal and between the city's islands. Water taxis are also active. Gondoles are now very touristic driven and can be one of the tourist trap, but it should be tried at least once, RIGHT?

The Bridge of Sighs or Ponte dei Sospiri; the Rialto bridge
Santa Maria della Salute; the canal grande or the grand canal
The main attractions in Venice, include St Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Piazza San Marco. Venice has a rich and diverse architectural style, the most famous of which is the Gothic style. Venetian Gothic architecture is a term given to a Venetian building style combining use of the Gothic lancet arch with Byzantine and Ottoman influences.

To enjoy the architectural style and the romantic ambient, you should explore the city by foot, just walk through the tiny vicolo or alley, don't worry you are not the only person doing this. In late afternoon and evening you might also hear soft music from the hotels or restaurants near you.

Canal behind the buildings; Vicolo or the narrow alley, so no cars around in Venice!
Boarding a comfortable cheap ferry or boat, you'll speed along the Venetian lagoon to Murano, famous for its glassware. During the visit you'll explore shops, factories and watch demonstration from glass-blowers. If you have extra money, why not get the world-famous Murano glass as souvenir. Re-board your motor boat you'll journey to the island of Burano to admire picturesque fishermen's houses painted in bright pastel colors, and, of course, the famous lace. You can visit a museum dedicated to the craft of lace, and here I purchased the beautiful lace as an addition to my wall.

The last island stop is Torcello, the earliest center of civilization in the Venetian lagoon. You'll see the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the 7th century. The Lido island is a popular international luxury destination, attracting thousands of actors, critics, celebrities, and mainly people in the cinematic industry. Overall, Venice is another city should be listed as a must see city in the world.

My next post will be on Zoo Negara Malaysia or the National Zoological Park.....

Converting Bedside Table to a Portable Wash-Stand (IKEA Hack)

What to do if a ready made furniture is not able to fit in the space that is available? Your choice will be either build a customised furniture or hacking a furniture for a different purpose. Hacking a furniture will cut almost 70% of the work required to build a customised furniture from zero.  Here, I share a step-by-step process on one of my DIY weekend projects converting bedside table to portable wash-stand. What will be required for this project? Tools (e.g. saw, metal ruler, hand drill), sand paper and brushes for wood work, base furniture to be hacked, water-resistant paint and metal knob. STEP 1. Get some ideas on the design and materials by visiting several furniture galleries/shops. For example here, the idea was from an IKEA wash basin base cabinet, Lillangen. The material mainly particleboard, which might not be that suitable for Malaysian humidity and bathroom practice. For that reason, I choose solid wood material the project. The Town of Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom

The time available for me to explore the Town of Reading was limited, as my worktrip was quite packed with formal meetings at the University of Reading and vis it to hospital and community establishments. Reading is located on the west of Heathrow Airport for about 26 miles and Greater London for about 42 miles. The Town Hall of Reading with grey and red bricks Lets go to the main landmarks of Reading. The first one is Reading Town Hall. The building was built between1786 and 1897. Currently, the town hall is used as Reading Museum and a large concert hall. Actually, the frontage was newly built with grey and red bricks, and terracota ornaments. The new facelift included the clock tower. Sadly however, the building suffered severe air raid in 1943. The latest refurbishement was completed in the year of 2000. On the southside of the town hall, you can see a dominant tower like structure that is the St Laurence’s Church. The Reading Town Hall, a vi

Before you snap here and there, know your lens first

Oppsss! I think I should introduce the lens, camera parts and photographic terms first before going to image composition. This time, I just want to share and introduce the terms and parts of lens. It is applicable for whatever lenses especially for the DSLR camera. The different will only be the terminology or abbreviation used by the specific manufacturer. Lenses can be categorized to many types such at wide angle, standard, prime and zoom. Each type of lenses have specific features and is used for specific purpose. For example, wide angle lenses are usually used for scenery/landscape and narrow space photography. Each lens will be marked with zooming distance (look at the numbers which ended with mm; see photo bellow). This number will gives you some ideas about the width of view when a photo is captured. A number less that 35mm can be considered as wide angle, the 50 - 55mm as normal lens, and the 75 mm and above as zoom lens. Wide angle lens will highlight the perspective of an
