Fabulous combinations

Some of us simply pick colours for our home interior from tiny sample printed in the paint sample book or catalogue. The colour looks very nice in the catalogue, BUT when the colour stands on the big wall, some might get shock or even a heart attack. Do not confuse your eyes with other colours that were printed side by side. Cover other colours with white or black paper to understand the full impact of one particular colour. Before choosing the colour, think about the effect of the colour when it goes to the wall. Does it match with the mood that you are trying to create? What will be the colour look like in a very bright light and at night. If all of the four walls of a room were painted with bright colour i.e. orange, fluorescence pink or green, you may want to spare some sun-glasses or paracetamol for your guest, as they can get BLIND or even developed severe MIGRAINE.

Soothing combination of colours: duck egg blue and cream
Usually each room will be painted with 2 colours, one colour to one wall (the feature wall) and the other colour to the other three walls. The vibrant colour is best for the feature wall as it will attract more attention. The following combinations of colours are the winners: Chocolate brown and orange, delicious every time. Minty green and white, feeling fresh and calming. Duck egg blue and silver, very rich and sophisticated. Olive green and light gold, indulgent with mother nature touch.Amethyst purple and yellowish white, give you the feeling of ultra confident. Chocolate brown and cream, monochrome with delicious taste.

Combinations of colours that are the sinners: Orange/Terracotta and vibrant yellow, blind me and others. Red and blue, is not friendly to the colour-blind. Lilac and green, desperate effect will follow. Vivid red and vivid green, OMG what are you thinking! Purple and orange, are you going back to a 70's revival? Turquoise and pink, what? NO, NO, NO. Navy blue and burgundy, like bruises from a traumatic accident, look lousy for your home. Whatever it is, the combination of colours is your choice, it is your home. Do not feel angry with my statement if you have painted your home with the sinner combinations. I just try to open wide your eyes.

Converting Bedside Table to a Portable Wash-Stand (IKEA Hack)

What to do if a ready made furniture is not able to fit in the space that is available? Your choice will be either build a customised furniture or hacking a furniture for a different purpose. Hacking a furniture will cut almost 70% of the work required to build a customised furniture from zero.  Here, I share a step-by-step process on one of my DIY weekend projects converting bedside table to portable wash-stand. What will be required for this project? Tools (e.g. saw, metal ruler, hand drill), sand paper and brushes for wood work, base furniture to be hacked, water-resistant paint and metal knob. STEP 1. Get some ideas on the design and materials by visiting several furniture galleries/shops. For example here, the idea was from an IKEA wash basin base cabinet, Lillangen. The material mainly particleboard, which might not be that suitable for Malaysian humidity and bathroom practice. For that reason, I choose solid wood material the project. The dimension of the IKEA...

Too dark...too bright....

Too dark or too bright.....this is due to poor exposure of the sensor to light. Is it a problem if my photo is too dark or too bright? May be yes and may be no, depends on what you want in your image. If the photo is too dark (underexposed), you will loss the detail of the shadow. If the photo is too bright (overexposed), you will loss the texture of the cloud and sky. Exposure is a combination of two fundamental settings: the aperture opening and the shutter speed. Aperture opening is the function in your lens and the shutter speed is the function in your camera. Optimal exposure can be achieved with many combinations of aperture opening size and the shutter speed, BUT each combination will have differences in depth of focus, motion blur and etc. How this exposure can be controlled? The answer is by having a good understanding of the combination of aperture and shutter speed. Shallow depth of focus, focus point was on the middle broccoli, focal length of 50 mm, large aperture ope...

The Town of Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom

The time available for me to explore the Town of Reading was limited, as my worktrip was quite packed with formal meetings at the University of Reading and vis it to hospital and community establishments. Reading is located on the west of Heathrow Airport for about 26 miles and Greater London for about 42 miles. The Town Hall of Reading with grey and red bricks Lets go to the main landmarks of Reading. The first one is Reading Town Hall. The building was built between1786 and 1897. Currently, the town hall is used as Reading Museum and a large concert hall. Actually, the frontage was newly built with grey and red bricks, and terracota ornaments. The new facelift included the clock tower. Sadly however, the building suffered severe air raid in 1943. The latest refurbishement was completed in the year of 2000. On the southside of the town hall, you can see a dominant tower like structure that is the St Laurence’s Church. The Reading Town Hall, a vi...
